Setup my own affiliate app or use 3rd party service?

Hi everyone,

I'd like to get some feedback on setting up an affiliate program for a nutrition supplement site that I do development for. We are doing very well with PPC campaigns, and wish to diversify into an affiliate program.

I am a very experienced web-app developer. I know there are premade apps out there, but cant find an ASP.NET one at a good price. I figure I can develop an affiliate application in a few days, but fear our prospective affiliates might not feel comfortable with relying on or in-house applications? Is this a legit concern? Would we be smarter to try to get into CJ or other affiliate managers?

Also, what is a 'fair' commission to pay for sales on nutrition supplements?

It might make sense for you to start with one or two experienced affiliates who can help you refine the program before committing the set up fees etc. to CJ.

There is an application called my affilate program that many merchants in the UK use for private programs, and I reckon a Google search would find many more.
