I have just run a small test (3 full days) and wonder if these results are "normal". Any comment appreciated.
I have:
One Linkshare text ad on top of page (sitewide)
One Adsense box on left side (1 advertiser) (sitewide)
One AdBrite text ad on bottom of page (sitewide)
(Frontpage shared borders)
Adsense reports 6,100 impressions
AdBrite reports 6,000 impressions
Linkshare reports 3,400 impressions
My in-house stats software reports 8,100 impressions.
All three systems should show an ad everytime a page is served and I am aware that there might be multiple reasons for the fact that my own tracking software shows 25% more impressions than reported by Adsense/Adbrite.
But how come Linkshare misses ("forgets" to count?) another 40% - actuall counting only 42% of the impressions my own software (of the shelf) counts?
Amazingly, reported CTR is about the same for all.
If any experienced webmaster could shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.
You should know that some security programs like Norton, block some advertisements, which could account for your lack of impressions.
