Mailing List Promotions

Can anyone give me any pointers on better ways to promote my mailing list?

Seriously, the question is a bit vague, what kind of list is it? How many, etc....you may want to make the rounds of list brokers found in the yellow pages, they will let you know if the list is even marketable.

It's a mailing list for a wireless company. They sell wireless equipment to ISP's and people who want to build a wireless network in there homes or offices. What I want to know is ways to promote it. I already have a pop-up going on the site and it's worked pretty good. But, should I pay someone for them to give me a link that goes to my mailing list. Or is it all done pretty much through just traffic that you get to your site, be it search engines, links and more and then grab them at my site with the pop-up and flash-y button saying "Join our Mailing List" and so on.

You may want to contact sites that a similar to yours, for co-reg deals. If they have an ezine signup form, they can tick a box to automatically be added to yours. Your best bet is to go double optin, with the box not being pre-checked, you will have more qualified subs. Some sites offer this on a per sub fee, but you may have to set something up with a site not already doing this. You can trade co-regs on your form, if you like.

You can also trade ads in your 'zine with others on similar topics. This can be done on a one-to-one basis, or there are newsletter exchanges, similar to banner exchange networks. I don't know how well they work, or any specific one to suggest, however.

Another idea is to trade banner space on your site, for ads in others' ezines.
