Is this SPAM or a much-needed feature finally debut?

Sounds Phishy

Why would anyone request a check if they can just have it direct deposited?

That's probably a very good news for international merchants who have to pay for exchange rate loss to PayPal for each direct deposit. PayPal really makes a killing with the exchange rate.

It sounds legitimate to me, although it's probably best to check with PayPal to be sure.

First, they included the customer's name. Phishing scams almost never do that. They almost always say "Paypal Customer" or "Valued Customer" or something generic.

Second, this sounds like a non-US account. I think we already have that option in the US. This could be new for worldwide customers.

Third, it's not asking for the customer to click through and enter a myriad of information.
