Hi All

I'm thinking of sending sending out a targeted email campaign for one of my sites. Anyone ever done this? Does it work and is it legal? Anybody know where to get hold of email address lists?

Thanks

Steve

Search for Can Spam on Google, it will take you to the law of 2003 that outlines all the procedures you have to follow in order to send out commercial emails. At least for the US.

Build your own list. It is much more responsive than a bought list and you can contact them whenever you have something to say (sell -).

Yup. I used to always have a means to collect emails on a site.

I currently have one list with 6000 members that was supposed to be a daily mailing. However my host limits the emails I can send per hour. I don't think I can send the entire list in a day and most of the subscribers were not double opt-in.

Since all these new laws and rules came out I really don't bother anymore, but I should.

I did try a few time to place ads in the emails but the response rate was horrible. The subscribers in the list were not very targeted.

You can send them a mail asking them to confirm again their acceptance of your newsletter. Tell them that you care about Spam and their privacy and that you only want to send email to people who are really interested in your topic.
You have to delete your old list then, but you probably get a more qualified one afterwards.
Good luck.

Build up your own email lists.
follow the can spam act and privacy law.
partner with a reputable email list provider
Let them find offers, run the mailing and then you just colllect checks each time your list is used

You create a subscription form on your website or use a hosted newsletter subcription service. You have it on each of your pages and get them to subcribe to your newsletter by giving away freebies or weekly updates about your site.
