I was on another board and a flame war ensued between Affiliate Marketers and "Real Site" Owners

Mind you the "Real Site" Owner group was pushing merchandise too.

I don't see the conflict.. am I missing something?

Yeah, the affiliate marketers are better at getting top results in the SEs.

;) We had a few of those threads over in the AdWords forum for a while.

Strange. I would have thought these "Real Site" owners would be happy to have tons of their own affiliates sweating it out for them ;)

It had to do with Adwords..

I asked the people arguing but they flamed each other instead. It was the Amazon Affiliates forum, I'll never go back there, utter waste of time.

I thought it would be a beneficial relationship as Affiliate guys buy ads and "real site" owners ( what ever that is ) display ad's

I dunno... what ever I guess

for me it's more a question of which generates a higher long term value in the mid/long run: AM can make you tons of money but you are not building an asset while running a "real" website might become an asset over time... you can sell it, merge it, etc.

well in reference to the argument I watched unfold
the "real site" owner group had a issue with the affiliate marketers running adwords campaigns that go directly to the affiliate site.

why would that be?

... can't really agree with that. It all depends on what you do with the traffic that goes to your aff website.

Do you let them slip by or do you try to capture their emails and buid a list? Add value to the aff products and you build "stickiness" - that will also help build your "equity".

Of course, if you don't have a website, then that's another story...
