Is anyone here making any affiliate sales through banner ads?

I seem to be getting some sales via text links on my website but banner ads are just a waste of space. I'm curious, does anyone make money off banners anymore?

I don't even get good click throughs on banners. Especially the standard 468 x 60 horizontal banner. 1 out of every 100 sales for me comes from a banner, the rest come from text links.

I removed all my banners because the clickthrough was so low. I have found on my site that text links perform MUCH better. The only time I put banners up now is for free shippingt specials. These tend to generate alot of clickthroughs.

I believe banners throughout the website are important and coild serve well for internal features promotion. Then, integrated into the content, text links for affiliates perform better.

If you put a 468x60 up in the top right corner, your unlikely to do well.
If you put a larger square ad-banner in the middle of your page content, your return will be quite good.

Placement is profit :)

It is a common misconception that people have when designing their pages - "well, i'll use the top-right for a 468x60 banner because"; a) that is what i've seen everyone else doing; b) I cannot think of anything else to put in that space.

The return is usually so poor from such banner placement, that you might as well not bother spending the time to create the banner in the first place.

Placement is profit...well said. I should start experimenting. I like the way some banners look on webpages and would really hate to just get rid of all them. So starts the trial and error :)
