Hello all,

My partner and I are thinking of starting an affiliate website. Before we jump head-first into this world, I'm wondering if anybody has some recommendations as to the best opportunities and upcoming markets to tap into.

We've looked into the specialty-hotel-travel booking angle and have discovered a lot of interesting information. Specifically, we can take advantage of a full data feed from something like Ian.com, which will allow us to create our own mini Expedia or Travelocity. Although this is a very robust solution which would provide tons of valuable content and functionality to our site, this seems like a hugely saturated industry. Furthermore, is it even possible to capture marketshare from Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz and the Hotels.coms of the world? Trying to battle these giants via PPC programs is not an option. We'd have to rely on natural search, which would be slow going at best.

We've also explored the retail shopping angle (Gap, Eddie Bauer, Lands End, etc.), but this is such a saturated market, it seems impossible to succeed, especially if you're going to be promoting/competing via pay-per-click programs.

If anybody out there could get back to me with any other industries or recommendations for new markets, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.

Eric

Every hot market is a competitive market. However, if you can focus in on some niche aspect of the market you can claim a share. I recommend doing some intense keyword research before you get started. The general terms with a lot of traffic are always the most expensive, but the terms with less volume get less attention and sometimes have lower bids.
