Don't let all the "banners are dead" headlines fool you. I recently did a private sale of 1M+ RON banners on my travel and relocation network of sites. This campaign is not targeted re my demographics, we're just going for eyeballs. I'm to deliver about 8-10K impressions per day, holding the saturation level around 20% of available inventory. The marketer provided 10 banners, and I set up CentralAd so that he could see the CTR of each. The field quickly narrowed to 2 banners. One is pretty clever (I'm not going to give away their secret) and draws the clicks without zapping any monkeys, yet it does provide a clear message of what's on the other side of the click. The results over the last 4 days:

Impressions: 37270
Clicks: 1808
CTR: 4.85%

Good information Mr Jordan. It just goes to show you that the 'buz' usually has nothing to do with reality.

Awesome! Excellent info amidst all the doom and gloom.

It goes to show you, you can still make money with CPM advertising, if you can sell inventory yourself. Watching your banner stats to work the right banners can be rewarding. This is the kind of relationship you can develop with an advertiser when you sell one-to-one.

Exactly. I'm currently able to generate 40-50k impressions per day. You know what? I'm darn near sold out. To do any more private placement, I'm either going to have to cut affiliate banners or Engage, and both currently produce income (and the checks still come like clockwork).

>still make money with CPM advertising

I was just reading an article that basically said that when it comes to online ads, everything has its place -how true.

Got a 468x60 *very* targeted to the site, 16% + of all unique users are clicking through.

(So how many monkeys have you zapped?) Geez! 16%+ I hope you locked in a long-term buy. Speaking from a publisher's perspective, you're killing the host with that kind of drain-off.

No kidding. I hope this isn't straight CPM.
