Amazon offers new linking option:

We're pleased to invite you to be among the first to try out a new feature for Amazon Associates: the Amazon Recommends™ service. It's a new linking style that delivers content served by Amazon.com based specifically on your site's sales patterns and may also include special offers that we think might interest your visitors. Testing has shown this targeted content can significantly increase both click-throughs and revenue for your site.

The Amazon Recommends service can:

Increase your referral fees by recommending products based specifically on your site's sales patterns. Deliver fresh content to your site. We update your recommendations each time a visitor views your page. Free up your time. Let the Amazon Recommends service make customized product suggestions, so you don't have to. (View just one example below.) The new links come in many shapes and sizes. Choose what's best for your pages.

I installed it on my site and it's a little rough around the edges but seems to have some real potential. Currently it's only being offered to a select group of sites but expect that to change.

Excellent, thanks for the heads-up Froggyman. The affiliate game is all about targetting, about time the merchants got into it.

Please keep us posted as to how it works out for you.

Amazon sent me the e-mail about this program too. It seems you get a gift certificate just for setting up the links somewhere on your site. At least my e-mail said that.
