So while testing adwords costs.. i found a niche or area i thought seemed lite on advertising..

i put in 5 keywords.. 40$ max (as suggested here) and the estimator put it at 13,000 estimated clicks on the main keyword.. with a max CPC at 0.07 in position 1.1..

checking overture there's an estimation of over 100k searches on this keyword.. and on google there are no adwords adds currently..

why would this area be overlooked? i see at least a dozen strong sites in that search that would be tough to overtake but why so few competitiors for adwords? could something be wrong?

Well, either 1.) I'll paypal you $1,000 right now to tell me what the KW's are... ;) or...

2.) Those KWs aren't allowed. There are some 'issues' and 'lawsuits' where big G will cancel your ads shortly after they start for featuring certain keywords.

As you said however, if it's a niche, it may just be overlooked, in which case you're a lucky *** *******. :)

1) deal!
2) should i run an add for a couple bucks and throw it to one of my sites to test it?

the keyword is a term but its not the name for a product or any specific item..

anything else i should look at?

Hey,

What type of KeyWords did you put in? If they are broad in nature, then yeah advertising on those words will most likely be light.

Are they single words?

C.K.

P.S. The reason advertisers don't usually advertise much on 1 word keywords is because they don't convert. You may see some advertisers on there that aren't in the know.

we'll see how it goes.. put up a semi related affil link.. .05 click.. 5$ max.. lets see click throughs and conversions in a couple days and see if its worth it..

its a single word.. but its a pretty popular search..

i guess it would be on par with.. ringtones or books..

I once found a keyword that has like a couple million searches with only 2 or 3 advertisers, I tried using the keyword the problem was there's too many impressions but very few clicks, thus causing my adwords to slow... that might be the case for you too... some advertisers seem to stay away from this type of keyword.... like me I had to stay away from the keyword to prevent my adwords from slowing... if I remember correctly.. I had 1 click and I made 1 sale on that... but that was it... I'm planning to reuse the keyword after I find a better way of using it though...

I say you're in the right path for giving it a try... good luck!

905 impressions in an hour.. 2 clicks.. not the best ratio.. but definately a lot of searches..

try {KeyWord:<backup>}, it's very useful if you're broadmatching this particular KW.

what do you mean exactly?

he means place that in your ad title.

{keyword:<backup title>}

example:
{keyword:Dude Want Some Beer?}
With this Beer You'll Never
Want Other Beers. Only $2 aff.
www beer-is-good dot com

This trick allows you to show any keywords the user search for. so if some search for your keyword, "My Beer is Your Beer"

Your ad becomes:
my beer is your beer
With this Beer You'll Never
Want Other Beers. Only $2 aff.
www beer-is-good dot com

very nifty trick...

Hey

Juice, fidibidabah and Tsinoy offered good advice about the Dynamic KeyWord Insertion Technique (Should be used in a certain way though).

You said that the word is a single word... I can almost guarantee you that it will not convert. In fact it will probably get disabled due to a low CTR. You must maintain above a 0.5% CTR for the KeyWord to continue running.

All the Best,

C.K.

Dont worry, I too have gotten excited by these seem able good opertunities only to find that they really are not.

The reasoning behind my comment.. is if it's a popular broadmatched keyword, dynamic titles could help to entice the user, even though the click might be rediculously untargeted :D

at least i learned a new trick.. thanks for that dynamic title thing.. that rules..

as you predicted.. after about 1500 impressions in a couple hours it was disabled..

oh well.. it seemed huge.. but it was a music related keyword and i thought i could direct some sort of music promotion at it..

i still have a lot to learn.. thanks for the info though :)

Uh..sorry I still don't get it:

do I place exactly

{Keyword:<backup title>}

and the keywords I have targetted will appear as the title of the ad,

or the <backup title> is to be replaced by something else (you know, how sometimes you write www.<yoursitenamehere>.com you don't actually place that exact string, you replace it with something...)

this is a cool feature...

rfung,

The backup title will only show up if your keywords are more than 25 characters.

you can also give it a try in adwords by creating some out of this world words and search the keywords on google, you'll understand the behavior better if you see it in action. :)
