Do you do offline advertising?

Aside from SEO and directory listings, the most form of advertising we have now is offline advertising. These includes posters, giveaways(with our logo and url), free softwares (adwares) and newspaper ads. The offline advertising brings us most of our users specially on our regional targeted websites. Anyone here using the same strategy? Is it working for you?

melfan, I'd like to learn more.

Are you using a mix of offline and online? Are you running promotions that cross over both?

Most importantly, how are you tracking your ROI? I had a thought of a simple redirect URL that someone would remember between the paper and the net, allowing a greater ability to track and gauge reader response... is this something you are using?

Thanks in advance

I'll be honest, I tried offline advertising and failed miserably. I tried advertising a casino portal in Gambling Online Magazine and the ROI was zero. I then tried advertising in Hustler magazine. I had an above average month when that ad ran but I wasn't able to track if that was due to the magazine advertising or not.

I would also like to hear more about this.

No, I never do offline advertising. I tried local papers, mailers, etc. It was a big waste of time. I think it would depend on the product whether it would work.

You could generate much more sales online I would think. I think of it this way: If I advertise 'blue widgets for sale' in the paper, then folks still have to get to a computer, type in the URL correct, etc. With a page done right you should get more than enough traffic from G/Y/MSN and PPC.

I advertise on my local newspaper, but I'm offering services which are traditionally offered in the papers.

The response is definately not as good as online advertising, but it brings in income too.
