I want to create a directory type guide for one of my sites that will include a link to all of the retailers in my area.. some of them use cj for affilates..

I was trying to pick a link/offer that led the clicker to the front page and looked the least like an add for this link in the directory (using regular offer links in another page) and i found one that did the trick, but i'm curious if its mandatory if I use the 1x1 pixel image they have in their html and can i change the link text to just match the retailers name.. will i not qualify for the purchase if they go through a 'customized' link?

any help would be appreciated..

You can change the link text to say anything you want.

Ya don't have to include the 1x1 pixel, i just use:

mfishy - Same here. Sometimes the link text sounds odd so I change it. Now that I think about it, I probably change more than 50%. Sometimes it is just for optimization purposes.

Most of the advertisers create the worst link text imaginable. Changing it is required 95% of the time.

Just make sure that when it is changed, it does not mis-represent the merchant or the offer and you should be ok.

I changed mine around a lot for Abebooks. I currently have a text link that says "Search at Abebooks" that runs a search there for whatever book the user is currently looking at (determined by a database query). I have yet to get my account cancelled, so I take that as good news.
