I have joined Comission junction and have been checking who has been visiting my site and noticed 'mx4.cj.com'. I read on this forum that cj have something called a 'spider robot'.

What is a spider robot and what is it doing, maybe only once a day I have noticed it...

My sponcors page is /sp but its not as a link on my site, just telling ppl to joto chelp.org/sp - so how would a robot know to go there...

I probably sound very stupid, but I dont know much about these things - have to learn somehow :p

I believe they are checking to see if your site is still valid, I think.

The spider is harmless. It's only purprose is to find people that are doing something against the publisher agreement. For example, an Advertiser tells their publishers not to use the phrase 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' on their websites. In this case the Advertiser would use the spider to verify Publishers abide by the new rules.

I only see it check the robots.txt and the index file...so I am guessing that its just making sure that the site is online.

so how would a robot know to go there...

If the page as a CJ tracking pixel on it or if anyone clicked a CJ link on that page, that means a call to CJ's server and that's how the spider knows it's there. ;)
