Hello folks,
I built a site that is loaded with content and is currently ranked #6 for a one-word keyword (historical related). This keyword gets over 10,000 searches a day according to one keyword suggestion tool and 2,000 according to the other. What a big difference!

Do you think it's worth pursuing this keyword topic? I wish I could say more about this keyword...but I don't know what gets snipped anymore...

Help!

You definately want to get higher as (AFAIK) most people click on first top 5 entries.

What you might try to do is to look at relative share of clicks that you get for specific keywords and number of alleged searches these keywords get. Theoretically speaking there should be some proportional relationship between place occupied by search results, number of clicks you get and total number of alledged searches. This should allow to predict number of clicks you would have had if you had higher positions, and thus decide if its worth the effort to try to achieve those positions (cost could be prohibitative).

This is all theory that I just thought of before going to bed before another long ass working day :(

Well, it really depends on what you're trying to do. I am assuming since you posted in this forum, you are looking to make money by way of affiliate programs or advertising - it will depend on the commission from the items sold, the conversion rates, how much "sticky" factor your site has. 2000 searches a day doesn't mean it will be all the traffic you would get if the site had any sticky factor.

Well done Skunker,

Had a look at your site and you have covered most of the areas that I would go into, (adsense & amazon). I would suggest that you set up your own amazon store to let your viewers stick around a bit longer. Try using one of those AWS scripts but focus on the alamo theme.

You can expand into western DVDs, country music CDs, etc. YOu should capitalise on your traffic while you have it.

Skunker, while trying to get to the top spot I would also examine your log files and see which other terms you are being found for and build some content related to those seaches.
