Can anyone suggest any affiliates that pay you to sign somebody up? and then you keep earning a monthly commission every month thereafter from them? ie. $5.00 to sign somebody up, then $1.00 every month thereafter.

Without naming any companies and violating the TOS, look for products that have recurring billing. To give you an idea, they would include subscription based information or entertainment sites, gambling, long distance plans, vitamins, web hosting and Internet access.

Keep in mind that residuals isn't always all it is cracked up to be. I have a few residual programs I work. However, you reach a point where all you are doing is replacing old customers with new customers.

I've found that taking a one time lump payment for these accounts (when the money is good) would actually have been more profitable in most cases and have started to switch to CPA programs to replace the residual ones on my sites.

I tend to agree with chrisnrae. In many cases, you are getting less money and floating the merchant an interest-free loan. Take a lump sum, negotiate a higher commission to cover the most optimistic residuals, and use the proceeds to grow your business in the here and now.

Plus you run the risk of the merchant pulling the plug on their affiliate program altogether, leaving you with nothing. I know, just happened to me, although I lost very little from it since the particular merchant never worked out for me (thankfully, as it turns out!).

I agree that often it winds up worse than up front dough, but there are some notable exceptions where the rev share plan will crush CPA. It really depends on the offer and the quality of the merchant.

In general when dealing with affiliate programs I prefer to take my money and run. For the rare exceptions you will always make out better this way.
