posted a 100 times before I am sure... I am new to Affiliate marketing..and am skeptical whether I should bother.

I've spent 3 years at web programming, run several offline small businesses...and cosnider myself to be an above AVG entrepreneur.

What I need is a Mentor or guide for this journey. I'm not advertising for a paid position, but someone who has been successful at this and can give some feedback as too whether this is a road that has been travelled one too many times or not.

Here's where I'm at.

I've played with Google AdWords a bit..Made a few bucks. (that's it oh and I've read 1 too many ebooks one web and affiliate marketing)

Where is the key too affiliate marketing?
-is it build an affliate site and go after a high SE listing?
-PPC advertising?

I've read more of these so called experts ebooks and it finally tuned into me...if they're so darn successful at affilaite marketing where is their time too market these ebooks, and why the heck would they share it with me Joe Shmoo :-)

Any releveant point is appreciated, and I'm sure there are hundreds like me. If I have violated any pt of this form with this post my apologies.

Thx.

Hehe. I know what you're saying about ebooks. Many of them are in a similar vein:

"I'll show you how to sell ebooks over the web at almost $50 a throw. All the information you need is in my ebook - it used to be $100, but, for a limited period only, you can purchase it NOW for only $49.99!"

Yawn.

I don't have very much experience with affiliate marketing but I'm guessing that the best way to be an affiliate marketer is to add value to the product that your merchant is selling.

eg. If you are an Amazon affiliate you might want to try running an internet book club discussing new releases in a particular genre. That gives people a reason to come to your site, apart from the fact that you sell Amazon books, and also makes it more likely that when they do buy books over the web, they'll buy from your site.

I'm sure that the reason why most affiliate websites aren't very successful is because they are merely a 'shop window' for the merchant. If that's the case... who is going to go to the affiliate site to buy the product? Why not just go straight to the merchant?
