Being new to the affiliate world I have a question.

I applied for affiliate status for a few programs I found at Linkshare, CJ, etc.

A couple of these apps were approved instantly. But a couple others noted that they hand review sites and that applicant sites should expect to wait a "reasonable time" for that review to take place.

Anyone know what a "reasonable time" might mean time wise?

A few days? a week?

I think my record for the longest approval time was 5 months from place at CJ. I guess "reasonable" means different lengths of time to different people. :-)

If a merchant takes anything more than your personal opinion of a "reasonable" amount of time to process your application; do you _really_ want to be working for them?

They could well be just as "sloppy" when it comes to tracking and making payment.

Dmorrison;

Yeah, that crossed my mind :)

One of these companies sells products I'd like to offer because they fit nicely with my site and I've had trouble finding any others that offer an affiliate program that looks looks at all credible.

The other company is a well respected name in my niche. I'm inclined to wait longer for this one if needed.

I've got merchants who haven't approved my apps from a few months ago...if you find one like that and you really want to join, send them an email to nudge them along.
