Affiliate Links in eMail?

Programs want the links on web pages, not email.

I have a hobby site that is starting to generate some revenue. I want to increase that revenue through a free newsletter which has topical content and also topical affiliate links.

Most of the affiliate programs assume or even ask that the links be put on websites. I'm sure they don't want to be party to spam.

I am not spamming but using an opt in email service. And, I post the newsletters on the site so they are available after the mailing.

Do you know if I am going to run afoul of merchant rules with this type of program?

Thank,
Ragazza

Many programs just want to confirm that the list is opt-in and that the email is not spammy. Try contacting the manager of the program and asking if they would grant you permission.

Ragazza,

With the new CAN-SPAM laws companies are being more careful than ever about email marketing. Some merchants are not allowing email marketing at all. So do be sure to check with the merhant on their policies.

Ragazza,

Odds are the affiliate links appear on your hobby site in relevant places, right? Why not use your newsletter to link readers to the relevant pages on your site? That gives you the opportunity to do a little more pre-selling.

Ragazza,

As ascreen discribed, I'm using an opt-in list to drive associate clicks.

I wonder: Could you include links in an opt-in email list that redirect to the product your are talking about? Is anyone doing this?

I'm all for extra pre-sales from content laden pages, but I can see how someone reading a hot newsletter would be ready to click on a associate-sold link right away.
