If visitors, it is better than average. Well even if it is clicks, it still not too bad....unless they are from clickbots.
Well, all my visitors 'come around and leave', but they generally stay around 5 minutes. I have a content site devoted to PC peripherals & I have shopping links (adsense/comparision shopping).
FWIW, I have heard of a number of similarly sized sites that provide a full-time income or more. You have to have the right demographic and monetize the size carefully.
I have a friend whose brand new debt consolidation site makes him several hundred bucks a month from adsense. Not too bad for a brand new site (3 month old).
With 5,000 visitors per day, I'd surely be wanting to convert those somehow, someway. ;)
Me too....Just selling exit clicks you would make $3K+ per month. Anything sold from content would be additional.
I estimate 5,000 visitors per day should put you in the top 40,000 sites according to Alexa. Given the number of sites that exist, that is a respectable position. Not a cornerstone, but certainly not small fry. Medium+ IMHO.
I think you should be looking at a minimum of $10K profit per month from this level of traffic from affiliate marketing.....$40K/month would not be an unreasonable goal.
Your friend in debt consolidation could make $15K+ per month from 5,000 visitors per day just by selling the traffic!
I suggest looking a little deeper into the opportunities available. Your site should be a good "printing press", if not you probably haven't found the right partners yet :)

If AdSense is a good fit for your site, I would definitely not use something as lame as exit pops.
P.S. IMO that level of traffic would more likely put you in the 100,000 - 1,000,000 range in Alexa. But that's not relevant to the price of beans anyway, and if you like you can simply install the toolbar and see for yourself.

You can use this fact to manipulate your own rankings somewhat (as MarkJH points out), and some people do. But IMO it's an utter waste of time.
$3K a month from pops would equal $20 cpm, not $50 cpm.
think it should be $300, not $3000. and no ad network I know gives even $2 NET! Gross, maybe.
Or you could have 10 exit pops pop on exit I suppose but none of those 5000 would ever return.
In my experience a website can make $1000 a month from an average of 1000 users a day - when you know how. And you would be well advised to leave pop-ups and -unders well alone.
Does that multiply if average number of visitors grow, for example you say $ 1.000,- for daily average of 1.000 visits so that will be $ 5.000,- at 5.000 visitors, $ 10.000,- for 10.000 visits and with an average of 25.000 visitors it will be possible to generate $ 25.000,- a month...?

Does it 'multiply'? ... along with the work, yes, it seems to. But this game is not for 'get rich quick' types.
5000 unique hits a day would be my dream right now. Here's my suggestions:
Keep using adsense, screw with the placement and colors and see if you can jump it a bit. You just might be able to hit $500 a month with AdSense, but $300 is reasonable ($250 prolly realistic)
Get into hardcore Pay-Per-Sale listings. Join CJ and spam your site with links (but of course in a tasteful way that won't tick your customers off). Use them with contenting, start writing articles (if you already haven't) and then link in the middle or the end with a banner or button or just a text link through CJ for a specific type of item on a specific landing page. Trust me. It works. If you can get a decent payout (I know it's off your topic, but a company like Fossil pays 15%, which is amazing) you can take some serious cash.
With 150,000 UNIQUE visitors a month, you could pull in a good $1k if you put a little effort into it and use your different avenues. Just keep working and tweaking, who knows, maybe it'll get bigger :)
While your numbers are under-estimate, your advices are pretty good.
5000 people aren't a lot BTW. You simply have to focus on one thing that puts your site competitive in your topic, and everyone will link you.

But as far as how much you will make, it wont be awhole lot. I make roughly $2.50 cpm though google which isn't nothing. I say with 5k unique, you should do whatever you can to make it even more. Don't put pop-ups on your site though, you still don't recive enough visitors to make awhole lot of money unless you don't mind annoying your viewers.
Try come CPA deals, I am doing ok with allposters and amazon making around $4cpm through them... just keep adding it up and placing more ads on yoru site, then you can turn that 5k unique into some cash...
I have two sites each with more than 6k daily traffic and they are not even in the alexa top 100,000 :)

5000 visitors is a fortune in some industry and minuscule in some ...if its a poster or porn site its few hundred dollars a month if its a pharm site i can easily rake 50k/month
OTOH, we have sites that generate that traffic everyday which only make afraction of that. As gopi says, it really depends on what area it is.

Hmm this seems an under-estimation to me. My website gets 25-30k page views per day, with less than 1000 unique visitors per day (normally), and brings me in more than the highest figure you stated.
With 5000 unique visitors per day I'd say anything unto $2000 per month via AdSense is achievable, and taking into account it's a hardware/computer site may make it an even higher figure.
