Wohoooo .... bye bye X10.

My index finger has callouses from clicking to get rid of X10's disgusting pop-unders.

Who's next?

For me, it's kind of sad... I knew the company before their video camera days. They were a leader in home control products, and completely dominated the low end of the market with their powerline carrier-based controllers. I still have a bunch of modules in my house, and the number doubles at Christmas when they control my indoor & outdoor lighting.

I suppose it's possible that this filing is a strategy to avoid the pop-under damages and that they'll emerge in OK shape. If not, I'm sure someone will snap up the home control product line and keep it going - they have many licensees, including Leviton, Radio Shack, etc.

PS. Just got an e-mail solicitation titled "Today from X10--Best Deals Ever Offered". No doubt... Irony, anyone? ;)

But Chapter 11 doesn't mean they're gone. Just protection from creditors while they negotiate and reorganize finances.

As /. put it, now they don't have to pay up. X10 will be here for a while.

I think that with that much debt, and almost 6 times more than their revenue, they will have a tough time staying in business.

In a Chapter 11, the operative word is "Cramdown". :)
