Quick Suggestions Needed

A friend at a very-high traffic, major brand-name site asked me for some suggestions for selling off excess ad inventory. They have a stable of existing major advertisers, but still have inventory available. Good ad control (i.e., preapproval) is essential to avoid conflicts with existing advertisers and company image, which makes Adsense (my first thought) unattractive.

Burstmedia came to mind, as did the possibility of targeted affiliate ads... any other suggestions?

I doubt they will accept whatever burst is offering.

What about having some of their sales people contact advertisers directly?

roger,

in my opinion what they need is a sales house who is understanding to thei needs, and will be willing to feed them "filtered" run of network inventory at a CPM rate.

I know of 1 company in the UK who does this, but none in the USA.

Shak, what you are describing sounds about right.

Mfishy, the direct sales approach would be one option, but perhaps they don't want to poison regular advertisers by offering them a cheap rate. Just a guess, I don't know what the internal politics are. I agree about the burst rates.
