Banner Advertising on Websites

Any Schemes for Paying the Bandwidth Costs.

This is probably a really easy question for someone!

Is there a banner advertising scheme whereby websites can join and display banner adverts on their sites and get paid per impression.

No doubt the rate of pay per impression is some fraction of 1 cent but I need a way to cover some bandwidth costs.

This is for a new site I am producing so is not mega urgent - I have adsense running on the site but I would like a more guaranteed level of income as well.

Fine with Adsense for 1000 impressions you could earn $$$ but I would love a gauranteed banner advertiser who will pay me 10cents or whatever for 1000 impressions.

I tried a search on Google but no luck :( - all I found was how to advertise on banners not how to publish.

Perhaps, Fastclick.com, Advertising.com, Tribalfusion.com could serve your interest. However they don't even come close in terms of providing as much revenue as Adsense.

You would find a combination of cpc & cpm inventories from the above mentioned ad networks.

I would still run Adsenses

This would not be against the TOS I assume as banner advertising is not content targetted?

what sort of page impressions do you reckon your site will have on a mthly basis?

Well - it is hard to say, depends if it takes off.

The site will be a forum and does not need to be SE friendly as it will be aimed at a user base who will probably go direct to the domain name.

My web hosts package provides 10,000mb of traffic and each MB above this level is £0.005.

All I need to do is to make sure that once I go above the 10,000mb threshold and am getting charged per mb that my earnings per mb cover the traffic charge.

As this is only a smallish figure then a simple gauranteed impression program should cover this charge?

I agree with your thoughts, but the crucial question is "why should an ad house or advertiser pay you on a CPM basis, for a site where there is no proven model"?

CPM deals are fine in certain areas but it really should NOT be the only source of income, even if it is just to cover hosting fees.

In the UK for the sort of thing you mention, getting 40p CPM is going to be hard work.

Agreed - Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself.

I will see how adsense works out.

I just get the feeling in a forum it will be a hard balancing act gaining income from adsense and keeping traffic expenses under control.

After all people on a forum are there to post and not follow links to other sites.

BTW How did you work out the 40p cpm?

Stephen

<edit>Taken the site out of my profile as that is not the one I was talking about and people were following the link ;)</edit>

based on what many publishers in UK ad networks get on a CPM basis after the adsales, agency costs!

Thanks for your help.

Getting a bit confused by terminolgy (did not know what cpm was - doh) but just checked out the charter.

I think 40p CPM would be more than enough.

If each page was then 1/10mb (1000kb - it will be much much lower than this in fact), then I will get charged 50p for 1000 impressions.

Just as a heads up Dayo_UK, it is typically hard to get a website that has the majority of its impressions served on a forum accepted into a network like FastClick or TribalFusion. I'd say give it a shot, but don't hold your breath.

Thanks for your reply.

I will give it a go. But I do understand what you are saying.

Adsense is running nicely on the forum at the moment :) - Although I am trying to be very kind to Mediabot - I have seen some forums where the Adsense code is displayed on every single page (eg when someone registers creating different confirmation url that are unique to that user and only displayed once (similar to session ids) - Googlebot must be working overtime on those sites)

I think there will be other ways I can also make money - eg a monthly/weekly promotion of an affiliate with information on how buying from this advertiser helps support the forum.
