I am just curious. We have a link directory on a specific topic and might be selling ads in the future. Reading about the fallen advertising market I just was wondering about the demand on advertising space on websites and what the CPM's are today?

We are having about 1.800 visitor sessions responsable for about 3.000 page views a day. 45% traffic from Europe and 40% US.

Have no idea how the banner market is. For text links, the market seems to be heating up :)

The google stuff with fastclick is $1 CPM, but if you run something highly targetted / etc you should be able to get between $5 and $8 CPM. ( I think ).

>$1 CPM

That's gross. Net is .65. Defaults are a significant percentage.

So with 1,800 (as we say in the states) impressions per day, you would get $1.17 per day?

Hm, there must be something better than that you could do :) Try investigating some targetted affiliate programs that pay on a CPA, etc.

With the right program, offer, you could get more than $1 per day on your traffic...

Significantly less, deduct defaults.

At .65 CPM (net), that's actually pretty good for the current 'brokered' banner market --the others will be .10 to .30 CPM (also with huge default percentages). Google is paying the .65 because they are targeting and delivering ads often in direct competition with your other revenue (sponsors, affiliate) programs. Also, there are often 2 text ads on a single 468 banner.

Depending on the focus of your directory (and whether or not you are worried about advertising your competitors) a PPC feed tweaked to suit your niche might make you a few dollars. Without out knowing your niche it's hard to say. Try seeing what the bids are at different ppc affiliate sites for relevant keywords that will draw clicks on your site.

You could also start your own ppc ad program, but again it depends on your site's focus.
