Referer: http://www.qksrv.net/click-*******-######

Referer: [qksrv.net...]

The above appeared in my logs today. That type of entry should be in CJ's logs, not mine. Have any other publishers ever had or heard of this happening before? I checked my CJ stats and it did register as a click today.

The same thing happened to me late last month. I think it has something to do with their spider...CJ Spider. It was visiting my site during the timeframe that the referral popped up in my logs. The referral was the same exact address I use to link to the advertiser.

The CJ Spider has been banned from my site for several weeks for not observing robots.txt protocol.

The IP address of the visitor was 172.144.138.74 belongs to AOL, so this looks very peculiar. Do you have any more info about that visit last month?

Actually its done with a popup killer by hiding your referrer.. instead people put affiliate links in there to that other webmaster will click on them.

kila_m,

You misunderstood me.

The CJ tracking code is mine and the referer code shows up in my own logs.

This is not a case of someone else inserting their own affiliate tracking codes into their browsers, so that I stumble upon them.

Probably a browser leaking an incorrect referer, not all that uncommon.
