What questions should I ask?

Hi folks,

I hate asking questions that I'm sure will have been thrashed to death somewhere on this mammoth site, but here goes anyhow...

I had a project in mind for an online store. During my research I discovered a store that already exists doing the same thing and they have (what I think) a very good affiliate program. Or at least they will have when it gets off the ground in a couple of months. On the terms they have stated it would seem a very good option for me to pursue this, and then I can just concentrate on the marketing of the site. But is seems that they are even newer to this than I am. When I sent them an exploratory e-mail asking for more info, they replied 'what would you like to know?'

I'd kinda like to come across as semi-professional, so any questions you think I should ask I'd most welcome the advice (or if you could just point me in the direction of a previous thread)

Many thanks,

Id ask them about:

Commision? How much will they pay you? and on what basis? Two or three tier programs, ie, 5% for bluw widgets and 10% for red widgets, or 10% for all widgets?

And

Order tracking? How will you be able to access this information? etc.

Payment, How and when will they pay you your commission?

Under what terms are you bound to the agreement? can you ge out at any time or can they get rid of you aytime?

How does the store/order system work, is it going to convinient for you?

Just my thoughts, thats what people usually ask me, when they sign up to our program.

Hope it helps

:)

- Do they allow image hotlinking?

- Do they allow deeplinking direct to products?

- Do they have an automated system for creating links?

- If so, are you restricted to using these links or can you create your own custom ones to other products?

- Do they have a datafeed available; if so do they charge for it?

Mike, Deejay (Kia Ora, btw),

Thanks for the tips. Some good stuff there I hadn't considered. I think I'll just do a 'cut and paste' from your replies straight into my reply e-mail ;)

Again, thanks.

Hey.. kia ora! Nice to see another kiwi around :)

There's a tonne of great posts in the forum with ideas on what to look for.. it's a bit of a burrow back to find some of them though. These ones made it to my bookmarks:

Champion, Deejay :)

I did try the search facility - but you could spend a month of Sunday's, go off on a million tangents, learn heaps about everything webmaster-ish, and still have no idea on the original question. Say 'thanks' to your bookmarks for me! :)
