Trying to find some affiliate links that are relative to your site would be the best bet as the traffic is targeted.
Try a site search for 'affiliates' to get some related threads on the matter.
Also there are a few options available like CJ where you can banners on your site.
Oh welcome to WebmasterWorld also! :)
My first posting here. :)
I have the same problem - a number of sites all generating large amounts of traffic (not quality though), and I've signed up with affiliate schemes believing that this would be the solution, but it dosn't seem to be the case.
Out of the affiliate programs that I joined, I make about $100 on a good week, and most affiliates only pay you when you reach a certain amount...thus I suggest only joining 1 or 2 and then analysing how successful they are...
I joined up with about 15, and each of them now owe me up to $20 or $30 each, but below there minimum payout. I learnt my lesson the hard way, by doing the exact same mistake with the PPC affiliate schemes - about 20 PPC's owe me about $10 each - I doubt I'll get to see any of the cash!
Anyway, best of luck.
Eric
In addition I would suggest using simple text to promote affiliate programs that might convert for your site.
Your url is really neeed to give you better options for how to monetize your site as it is not listed in your profile.
You can send it to me via a webmasterworld stickymail if you don't want others to know it.
Any site can make money with uncapped popups or popunders but you may not have to resort to something so draconian if other revenue streams generate something acceptable to you.
That being said once per session popunders are something you definately need to be using.
[edit] is the address.
Very grateful that youre helping me out! :)

[edit reason] no url drops/site reviews please [/edit]
i've found most of the company's have strict policy's on single pops (if you choose this method), but this is often overlooked, and your site starts spawning multiple pops - which is a sure fire way of making sure the user doesn't return!
the other problem is that many of the pops for most of the programs for some reason, don't count many of the pops.
on one of my sites, i get around 1000 visitors per day, yet the pops show around 50 per day. i still can't get an answer out of the company's.
even worse when they say, "no adult content" and you see a pop spawn another pop with porn!
firstmark...
what is:
"An above the scroll banner provider.
A below the scroll banner provider "
If you have a web site about Cars, write articles about car maintenance, and then "casually" mention your affiliate links as text links, while referring to the products and giving some info about it - like a product review or something.
The more obvious an ad is, the less likely someone will click on it.
I have gone months without a single banner ad on my web site and yet have made hundreds of dollars in commissions (not boasting at all).
Also, you need to somehow convince your visitors to join your newsletter (if you don't have one, then start one asap) and then you can send them articles and useful content embedded with subtle text ads to related products, and that's how you make back-end sales and commissions.
You can also put them on a sequential autoresponder to send them pre-scheduled emails so that they keep hearing from you regularly and you need to build a level of trust with them before you can sell them anything.
A mailing list is the only way to online fortune - not banner ads on your web site.
My 2 cents,
Regards,
Ravi
