Affiliate Marketing VS. E Book Publishing -- Which makes more money?

There are a lot of e book programs for which one can sign up for as an affiliate and make money promoting other people's e books.

However, I have a lot of knowledge about a particular niche subject. I'm thinking of writing my own e book.

Is it worth the time, or is my time better spent promoting other authors through affiliate programs?
