Only from the affiliates own site?

If someone is an affiliate of a merchant, can they buy say 10000 popunder ads from a traffic source and run their ad for that merchant 10000 times in a campaign or would they need to get permission from the merchant first? This assumes the merchant offers their affiliates a popunder ad with HTML code to use. Or is the intent of the merchant for that popunder ad strictly for the popunder to appear only from the affiliates own web site?

It depends on the merchant and what the their affiliate arrangement is. Some merchants strictly forbid popunder traffic and/or using their ads on banner exchanges. This is because on a banner exchange/pop up exchange the merchant has no control over the sites on which it's ads are displayed. If the popunders are targeted to the merchant by the theme or subject of the site(s) on which they pop and are not "misleading visitors" you are probably o.k.

It is best to thoroughly check the merchant's affiliate agreement, especially if it is on a network (cj,befree, performics, sixfigureaffiliate, etc...). It would s¦_¦ck to get kicked off a network for experimenting w/ one merchant that may or may not convert w/ popups anyway.

Check out the merchants affiliate agreement and/or TOS and either ask the merchant beforehand or not ;-)
