I am working on a webservice for which I know without a doubt that I will have two categories of users. The first category is 18 to 22 college going males and females who happen to enjoy drinking, partying, spring break, etc....
The second is 22+ male and female college graduates.

Now, im not so worried about the second group for now. What I really want to do is generate as much income as possible based on the first group (18 to 22 mf college going)

I believe that the content of the website will not reflect their desire for drinking, partying, snowboard trips, spring breaks, etc, so what should I look into to maximize revenue? I was thinking of directly contacting different companies to sell them web space, but Im not sure that method will yield the highest results.

I thank you in advance for any and all suggestions =)

it's really hard to answer that question if you haven't decided on the content of the site yet. I'm not really clear what type of a site it will be. Is it built yet? Once you have the site up and we can take a look at it, it will be much easier to make suggestions!

Hi Budfroggy,

Instead of directly contacting advertiser's to sell your web space, why don't you go through an affiliate network. It's hard to go to an advertiser directly if you don't know what your looking for, and what if they're campaign doesn't work for your visitors. Basically its kind of like putting all your eggs in one basket. If you go through a network you can test out different campaigns, see which ones work without it costing you anything.

An affilaite program is hte way to go in order to monetize as you build. No big advertiser will pay for ads on your site without real traffic data to support their media buys.
