I guess if you are young enough you won't remember that apalling song "Chiquitita" by the 70's group ABBA. I do, and each time I log onto my stats I end up having the darned tune run through my head for hours.

New name suggestions please?

That's funny. Everytime I think of Chitika I get that awful Elton John song from the 80's, "Nikita"!

I don't know about the name but I ran them for a day and they gave me credit for not even half the impressions I sent them and only 1 32cent click.

Not in my book....that absolutely stinks. The ads came down this morning, I am not diluting ad spaces with those that don't work to replace those that do. I mean 32 cents? Are they for real? Out of that I would have only made about 15 to 20 cents, not worth it.

That was cheating on the impressions and they have such poor selection of ads it is pathetic.

I would rename them Mud and leave my favorite banana out of it. :)

For some people Chitika rocks but for others it doesn't seem to perform well.

For me it works better than AdSense :) Chitika helped me to boost my revenue enormously and become less dependent on AdSense.

Well thanks david_uk, thanks a lot
Now I can't get the song out of my head too!

I seriously have reservations about their nick name Chit. This cannot be good at all.

I still can't believe Chitika didn't grab the misspelled variation of their domain (the one where you switch the t and the k) before launching. Someone has a destination for that variation now and is probably getting some traffic thanks to Chitika.

For me, Adsense has a lower impression count than does Chitika. Althought that doesn't really matter.

When used in conjunction with Adsense (ie, they're on the same page), Chitika does perform less than anticipated. When Adsense is completely taken off and users must choose only Chitika, its performance is better (for me at least) even if the CTR is lower.

That was cheating on the impressions and they have such poor selection of ads it is pathetic.

Well, Chitika themselves recommend shopping.com and Amazon to search for specific product names. A few million things in both...

Chitika is working great for me because I have a nice product based site. If you are talking about "Search Engine Marketing" or "Mortgage calculators", Chitika is not meant for you.

ann, the flaws in your thinking alarm me (for a senior member like you)

What you see in the Revenue column is "Your Revenue". If you are seeing 32 cents, where did the 15 cents come from?

If the list of products at Amazon and Shopping.com is pathetic, I'd like to know where you shop at. I get the feeling you did not even take the time to explore the Chitika system. Unlike Adsense, this is not a "get running out of the box" system. Those of us who have got the targeting working (by selecting the right products or using plugins) are reaping the benefits.

Funny thing. The variation on their name that begins with an S is still available. I wonder for how long.

Maybe ann would have an interest in it.

I was rejected by them by the way. I have no idea why, but maybe because my site is not related to any physical products.

Here are some reasons for rejection, you choose:
Traffic not being US Europe Australia, Adult content, Language not being English..
Or your site was just plain ugly in their eyes.

The name has not stopped them from becoming a near overnight success.

It's all in the technology, not the name.

Besides, at some point they may be known as "MSNSense" or "ASKPN" ;)

I doubt it has to be, it just has to be able to provide a market for the products.

Actually, their name stinking may help them in the same way a prominent feature (e.g., a large nose) can help character actors or politicians. :)

OK, now I'm getting curious. I have a great looking site and most of my traffic is from the US. UK comes in a distant second.

I don't have any adult content or other objectional material and I get decent traffic.

The email said they won't give the precise reason why I was rejected or something along those lines.

So why was I rejected? Anyone know what some other reasons could be?

I agree - though it is probably too late(?) for them to change the name, since I speak Spanish it took me a few days to get used to Chitika not being Chikita (which is a misspelling of Chiquita commonly used which means something like little girl).

Well thanks to the discussion in this thread, I sent Chitika an email. I basically questioned any grounds for rejecting my site.

Well they reviewed it again and accepted me into the program. They also sent an apology for rejecting me the first time. Although no explanation as to the initial rejection. I assume it was just a cock up.
