Affiliates and Insurance and Risk

Any liability issues

I'm thinking of joining some affiliate programs.

Are there any liability issues I need to be aware of? Do I need to have liabilty insurance, or other insurance to specifically cover the affiliate stuff?

How do you all handle the isnsurance issue?

What I'm looking at are books, magazines, and classified affiliate programs if that makes a difference.

IMO, whenever you work with the public, there's a liability issue to be considered. If you'll look at the rates (and what's excluded) in a publisher's professional liability policy, you're likely to quickly get the impression that it's a very risky business, regardless of the medium.

The few independent publishers (print and web) I know tend to incorporate their business, review both content and affiliations with an eye towards exposure & risk, and forego professional liability insurance due to the high cost.

I've turned down some merchants because of this issue, and I feel it's particularly important if there is co-branding involved because the consumer doesn't really identify the 3rd party providing the goods or services.

Has anyone ever heard of an affiliate site (or affiliate program for that matter), being sued?
My search on google yielded little.
