Need advice

When you are running a semi large website (a couple million page views) What do you find is the best way to create revenue from advertising. 468x60's don't generate enough money and more intrusive advertising gets annoying quickly. We provide information and most of our traffic is repeat visitors who we do not want to annoy.

So give then above what would be the best way of increasing advertising revenue. I don't need to pay for traffic, I need the opposite.

What do you think?

Thanks

Text links that are relevant to your topic seem to work the best.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Text links. Like this
Relevant stuff for your visitors

Text links are clicked much more than banners and if you chose the right affiliate programs for your readers you should do well.

In the beginning you will have unsold inventory. Sell that to yourself.

Develop TEXT LINKS to affiliate STUFF that relates to your site / visitor.

PS: Banners can be made to look like TEXT LINKS.

My users tend to be technology people and personal home electronic equipment, which affiliate program do you believe will be useful? I have and am doing research, but I would like to know which ones you have found to be productive. Should I be looking at the pay per click variety or the purchase/sale variety.

Purchase - Sale

PPC is virtually non existent now anyway.

Only you know what suits your audience best, just have a look around...

Do you find that these programs generally generate money for the publisher? It seems to indicate that the vendor is simply getting a lot of free clicks at your expense, perhaps I'm mistaken, so I'm asking.

Depends on your targeting. A LOT of people make a LOT of money at it. Just make your links go to somewhere highly targeted.

You may want to join a few programs and deep link to specific pages from articles/sections of your site that deal with those specific subjects.

Targeting in key.

PS: I'm relatively new to affiliate marketing, most of what I'm saying has ben said a dozen times here before by more experienced folks. Have a trawl through the library and the links in this forum. There are some great threads to help you if you have a look around..

There are a number of Consumer Electronics Merchants listed at CJ.
Most seem to have a good commission rate.
Most have a high EPC.

With the traffic you have, I'd contact the merchants direct to see if they have an inhouse affiliate deal or ad tracking capability that can show them sales per individual ad.

Thanks, the site is closer to the expert site and it is very specific. What type of payoff do you generally find acceptable? I'm not new to marketing, just affiliate marketing is something a bit new and I wanted to know some of the pitfalls and avenues to explore.

Just one last question, would you prefer linkshare.net to comissionjunction?

I'll be implementing the links shortly and will create a report for everyone to share here. I appreciate your time and experience in answering my questions.

Thank you very much

Why not create multiple links and test both. You will see the results from your site and can then make a judgement.

Yes, good advice from Mike.
