aerospace.com army.com defense.com label.com (not my domains, just examples)
would you try to build PFI or pay per month business directory's? what would you do if you had these versatile domains?

I own two (maybe more, can't think of any others at the moment) one-word, generic dotcoms. One, military-related, I converted to a directory and use it as a theme-related site for my network of content sites. The other is a common furniture/construction term. I currently use it as a marketing url for my wholesale business (but I expect that in the long run I'll end up selling that one). IMO, it has to be a very common "type in" (neither of the above are) before the domain itself has real online power other than branding and authority. Of course, perceived authority is a major part of the affiliate game, so they're useful for that.
