(Austin, TX - USA) WebmasterWorld.com, the web's highest trafficked super forum, has announced its next Internet Marketing Conference (aka Pubconference [pubcon.com]) in Orlando, Florida, USA. The three-day event, commencing on Thursday 26th February 2004, will feature four conference tracks covering Search Engine Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Affiliate Programs and Site Ownership/Webmaster Technology issues.

Previous conferences have attracted more than a thousand delegates from around the globe, and according to conference organizer Brett Tabke, "After the early sell-out of our London conference in September 2003 we anticipate a similar heavy demand from around the world for places at the Florida event." There will be several keynote speeches throughout the event and ample opportunity for delegates to question and meet many of the world's leading search technology companies and executives.

The event is sponsored by major search and marketing firms, including Google, Overture, Yahoo, PositionTech and GoToast.

One question for the pubcon veterans:

How much is a round, approximately? :-)

>How much is a round, approximately?

If we all have some refreshments at the same time, it's about $300 to $500. ;)

Don't worry, you're not committed to buying rounds. It's all about the opportunity for interaction with your peers, industry experts and specialists from around the world meeting in one place. It's only the talking that makes you thirsty.

It's five below zero here. That tipped me off the fence.
I'm booked.

just got a $263 flight from san francisco on Ryan Air. Not that I've ever heard of Ryan Air (other than seeing it as a Google Zeitgeist listing). I'm sure it will be fine - if all those people are searching for it, it could only mean that they are legit. right?

Getting closer! Haven't bought my flight yet. How many folks are headed to SES right after? That will make my decision as to staying the week before or after.

Ryan's legit, I've used the several times, however it's a low budget EUROPEAN air line and I certainly didn't know they flew US domestic?

>ryanair

I'm with Rumbas, I'd double-check that ticket stub.
"Ryanair has 133 routes that cover 85 destinations across 16 countries."

...but the US isn't listed as one of the 16.

Thanks, it's actually Ryanair through an airline called ATA (which I defnitely haven't heard of). But for $260 I'm happy to roll the dice.

ATA is AirTran. They're a pretty large discount airline nowadays, and one of the three with a major presence actually making profits (SouthWest, JetBlue and AirTran).

AirTran has its two big hubs in Atlanta and Orlando, so they will probably have good rates. Like the other discounts, they are cattle cars, so don't expect American Airlines-style legroom or many empty seats, but they offer really low prices.

One AirTran hint--usually you can upgrade for $50 to Business Class if you do it at the gate the day you're flying. Probably worth it in many cases.

<disclaimer>My Mom is a flight attendant with AirTran, so I'm naturally biased towards them ;-).</disclaimer>

ATA is not AirTran. ATA is what used to be called American Trans Air - they're based in Indy and fly mostly through Chicago Midway. They're not a bad option, if you're not too tall. If you are, well, you'll suffer for a few hours. Seat pitch is miserable.

AirTran is what used to be called ValueJet (remember the Everglades crash a few years ago?). Their hub is Atlanta (but not Orlando), and they may or may not be a better option (they allow you to upgrade to first for a fee, if you care).

Since these are both LCC's (low cost carriers), bring your own food. And as I said above, you will suffer. Seat pitch (distance between seats) is often just 30-31"

As a side note, Orlando is a cheap destination on all carriers. American flies there a lot, as does Delta and Continental. I would go with one of them, especially from the West Coast.

ATA is the absolute worst when it comes to comfort. I'm not huge (6' 185lbs) and I pretty much eat my knees in those seats.

For a 2-3 hour flight it's not too bad. But 4+ hours on one of their planes is a nightmare!

They're usually the cheapest though.

nice. I'm 6'4" - kind of wish I hadn't posted. I'll be ready for a pint once I arrive in Orlando.

Just had some relatives fly AirTran. Good price & good service.

If you're flying in or out of Atlanta, most flights are direct. Worked out well for elderly relatives.

ATA is not AirTran.

I stand corrected. The price was exactly the same, so I thought for sure it was the same.

If you're 6'4" you'll love American. Nobody else I've flown has anywhere near the same amount of leg room in the cheap seats.

MQ (mostly flies American - don't tell my Mom)

Ditto. Also there is online seating assignment, so if you know where the best seats are you might grab one.

I'm sorry to report that I saw an article about 2 months ago that said AA was no longer going be pushing the "most legroom" marketing angle and that seating would likely be tightened up.

I had a great time in London. I met a lot of people. I still have partnerships with people I met. I love the network of people that I can bounce things off of. I was still pretty new when I went last time. I am looking forward to number 2. I have a much better game plan this time.

Hey Shak do you still have that site with the London PubCon Pictures. I am sure everybody would love to see that so they can recognize people.

This is my first PubCon any tips from the vetrans on what to expect for a newbie?

First, expect something interesting/valuable/fun nearly 24*7 -- if you want that much.

Second, if you have not been surrounded by people who understand what you do (not many of us have been!) then you're in for some very positive "culture shock" by being with hundreds of folks who really get it.

I think the second point has been the biggest PubCon plus for me - above the networking, above the information shared, above the friendship so openly extended by so many.

I didn't realize how very isolated I felt a lot of the time, even though I spend much time talking to people who sort of "know" something about the web - like my clients. But after spending just one hour in the lobby in London, the feeling of being in my natural environment for the first time was overwhelming.

tedster, I have been thinking about the bonus of being with a large group of people that wont have their eyes glaze over when you mention .htaccess or keyword density.
I have 1 friend that I run into a couple of times a year that I can talk to about all things digital and when we get together our minds both go 100 miles per hour, multiply that times a couple 100 "new friends" and I just can't grasp the mental overload.
I can't wait;-)))

First, I just wanted to say Hello to all!

Although I am not completely active in the discussions here at WebmasterWorld I visit to read daily. Usually don't have to ask the questions because the answers are easily found. Anyway I have just booked my trip to Orlando and am excited about the Pubconference VI. My first and hopefully not my last

Does anyone have recommendations for alternate hotels? All rooms at the Clarion, including the rooms reserved for PubCon4 are booked. The Clarion's sister hotel, the econolodge, is next door and they have available rooms however something nearby with internet access would be prefered.
Thanks!

>> if you have not been surrounded by people who understand what you do

One of the things that concerns me about this, being a first timer is the fact that I get the impression that I'm going to be a tiny little midget walking through a pub surrounded by giants.

Not a major worry... giants are known to become very friendly to midgets that offer booze. ;)
