I was wondering what was wrong. Having a difficult time getting in. Guess people are watching for the update.

Just be glad this server doesn't handle google backlink searches for www.yahoo.com, it just creates them. :)

If you need a load balancing mirror, i've got some "unused" fat mac's here in germany and as long as GWB doesn't cut our intercontinental wires i also can offer some nice bandwith ... ;)
Congrats to the server loads - hope the number of subcribers is also increasing! ;)

I don't know if it helps, but i've changed the normal 75 pages per page that i have to 10, heopfully that will help.
And congrats to the massive amount of visitors and pageviews.

I'll bet the "Yahoo! BL's CGI link" that's posted on the forums:
you all realise of course, that if the "i can't wait for the google dance" threads were banned, webmasterworld would only just be in the top 100,000 most used sites in the world rather than the top 1000 .....

Funny thing is that the number of posts is not unusual, guess most of the users are lurking

He, he... just what we need, a 300-post thread on how the servers are getting hammered! ;)
I'll turn off smileys in my profile if it will help, Brett... Maybe their use should be rationed, too - no more than one smiley per post, and 5 total per thread. :) (Oops! I'm over already!)

So lurkers must out number members 10:1, now? ;)

Maybe the Google Update thread will be a members only thread?

>number of posts
count again. 18k posts in the last week. In january we were doing 7k.
also note, I had to trim the active list back to 11am today (server time) - only about 2/3rds showing.

So was this all real traffic or was the site just getting hammered by *something*?
<snip>removed one of mysql maturity/stability rants</snip>
lazerzubb - we all know that ain't gonna happen, I'd pay not to see that thread ever again :)

Just before we crashed, the Active was tipping 280 --that's not the highest I've seen it but it's getting on up there.

RC, from what I saw the active has been constantly OVER 280 for many many hours. What's more there are hardly any breaks any more. It just keeps coming, day in day out.

Agreed. We sustain well into the 200's. Even the off-hours on the weekends are holding 180+.
We're going to need more dilithium crystals.

Don't overload the engine - it could slingshot the server around the sun and backwards in time.
