Good morning o ¡buonos dìas! I move my old post here. I'm looking for good sources in Spanish on Spanish search engines. I'm thinking about a forum for Spanish SEO specialists or informative sites.

Thank you
Miriam

Miriam, Ove - thanks for your contributions to the spanish discussion.

Miriam, sorry but I don't any good specialised spanish speaking board dealing with the spanish SE scene. I`d suggest looking at the odp and the spanish directories for a start.

Generally the Internet in Spain lags behind significantly compared to other western european countries. One main reason for that is problems with the infrastructure.

Nevertheless the spaniards are starting to catch up. 2001 saw an 44% increase in internet usage, with a total of 23% online now, according to JupiterMMXI figures from december.

Thank you Ove and Heini.

Good idea odp and Spanish directories. If I find out something interesting, I'll post the news!

Ciao
Miriam

Hi, great info site here....
Perhaps one problem within Spain is indeed Telefonica. Just look at their web site (same with Terra), they don't seem to understand about presenting information in an understandable way. Too many university 'informática' grads.
:+)
When ISDN came along it took them at least 6 months to train their techs (I kept being told to re-configure my modem). Now they are with adsn and they are in the same place again. The engineers at the public end are not up to scratch. Guess it comes down to investing. Get the punter first, then sort out the probs later, (like mañana....lol). Don't get me wrong, I love the place (I'm English, living in Spain). More Spaniards will get into the internet when the Telefónica 'mob' extract their digit and invest 'before' things need it and not 3 months later. I heard a rumour 5 years ago that they didn't think the internet was gonna be that big! Hmmmmm.

tbear,

Welcome to Webmasterworld :)

Was you aware that British Telecom own shares in Telefonica ?

Telefonica need to train their staff, I am staying in Portugal now but I lived in Spain for about 7 years and had problems like no-one would believe.

I recently had Cable put into this place and they sent THREE engineers to install it :

1 of them to strip the cable
1 of them to configure the modem
1 of them to configure the PC

The spanish are catching up especially in 2001 when usage went up a great deal.

I think Cronicas Marcianas helps aswell :)

Yes,

I can't remember how much BT actually own, I think it used to be quite a stake but I seem to remember a story in the Ultima Hora about them selling some back or something, my memory is not that good :) too many google updates :)

hehehe,
Yeah, seems to me telefonica are too wound up with the bolsa....
Most of the best religeous teachings tell us to ACT not react. Telefonica aren't that religeous¡ LOL.
Info: Bin into SEO for about 3 years and love it (still a novice), web design since I bought a 'puter (5years).
Used to have fixed rate internet access with Terra, not bad. Recently, I had to go to Telefonica 'cos I couldn't find how to do it at Terra's web pages. Wow, I nearly died laughing, till I saw the bill!
Brits are just around the corner from Telefonica, so I'm not surprised they have shares. "To check someone out, have a look at their friends", Quote from some chinese guy, centuries ago!
Un abrazo.

Interesting tidbit, drawn from here [europemedia.net], on the infrastructural situation:
AOL Avant, partly owned by AOL, rents out stripped down Intel PCs for basic web surfing for just 13,90 EURO (=$12,50) per month.
In 4 months some 140,000 workstations were rented out.
Though the company said this was 40% off their expectations I find this a high figure, pointing to one of the critical factors in the development of the spanish internet: not enough PCs at home!

Mhmm - what IS eresmas.com [eresmas.com]? Bocazas named it here back in October as 5th most popular engine in Spain, and I just found this elsewhere on the web.
Eresmas uses Google, looks like a regular portal site - any further info? Is it an independent unit or do they belong to some ISP?

I see, they even do adsl. Do you get traffic from them?
They even maintain a directory - couldn't see a submit option anyhow.

The infrastructural problems in Spain, responsible for the slight lagging behind in terms of online usage, have been mentioned a few times here.
Now Spanish government starts a new attempt overcoming the problems:
more than 255,000 rural telephone lines will be upgraded until 2004, that can’t currently provide internet access.

Hi!

Voilà España doesn't exists anymore, Jumpy redirects to telecinco. This is not a directory anymore, Señas redirects to [trovator.com...] another one, but no so good to my point of view, Indibil : the language used is not exactly Spanish but catalán (don't know the English word for that), which is a regional language. Sol : the directory used is dmoz, for the search engine part, i don't know. Telepolis is a portal using Google in Spanish. Maybe you could add the catalán version of yahoo which is here : [ct.yahoo.com...]

:-)

There is also another SE in spanish using google:
http:www.caloweb.com

I think they don't get too many visitors but....

Other thing:
eresMas is not an indepent company. It has been owned by the Auna Group wich also owns Retevision (telephone operator), Amena (movilphone operator) and a good number of city cabel providers like Madritel (in the capital), euskaltel (in basque country) and others. Last month, after his buy of South America's Starmedia it was sold to France Telecom.

Hey Digimon - thanks for the info!
We had that take over of EresMas.com covered here in an extra thread - it's a significant step into the Spanish ISP market from France Telekom. They are a top3 player in that market now.

Caloweb - a real oddity. A small company, operating in Germany, France and Spain with a 100% Google interface. Nothing added, just plain simple Google.
Anyhow, this engine is at least in Germany virtually unknown....
