I know there are mouse gesture navigation techniquies in Avant browser (which is mentioned way too infrequently here, because it's an awesome browser, except for it's IE base)...but i was wondering if there are things like this in firefox?

Yes there are, although not by default. You have to choose one of the mouse gestures extentions.

Mouse gestures are available as an extension [update.mozilla.org].

There are currently 100 officially-approved extensions for Firefox, available at [update.mozilla.org...] or by clicking Tools > Extensions in the Firefox menu bar.

One of the things I like about that Firefox extension over Opera (even though Opera is still my main browser): the option to have a red line trace the mouse gestures.

Kind of like those apps that echo Grafitti strokes for Palm users

My favorite mouse-gestures extension is All In One Gestures. I've found it much easier to use and easier to customize than the others.
