Well I downloaded firefox after noticing that about 10-15% of my visitors used it just to make sure my sites looked ok and, well, its just so much better then IE.

Now Im using IE to make sure my sites look ok and firefox for general browsing.

Any other converts out there?

Nah, not me. I tried it, but I still like IE.

I've tried Firefox twice and I just don't like it. I wish I did.

I use it, very happily even as I write this.

It's not perfect though. Some websites will crash it or cause it to run sluggishly.

For downloads, though, you can't beat iCab. It has a great download manager.

I stay away from IE like it's got the plague.

I switch between Opera and Firefox depending on what I'm doing - and - like snowman won't use IE ever. I love both of them, especially some of the available extensions for Firefox!

I started with FireFox at version 0.6.2 (only it was still FireBird then). I use IE only for testing my sites, never for actual browsing. Those who don't like FireFox (or any other "alternative" browser) and thus stick with IE need to make sure they're giving FireFox a fair trial; a week of exclusive use without ever opening IE can disclose many time-saving and enhancing features you just can't get in IE.

No, I really get the features and wish I could incorporate the look of them into IE. Also, on Firefox, I've noticed some weird extra bars at the top of certain pages. I'm loathe to change anything. I just bought a brand spankin' new computer and figured now was the perfect time to experiment with new browsers, but alas, just like the dozen times I downloaded ICQ and hated it, I feel almost the same about Firefox. <sigh>

One thing that really annoys me is when I import my favorites and it alphabetizes them. Gah! I know where everything is now and I like where it all is. I don't need to alphabetize my favorites.

<Note: I have a headache and I'm cranky, so take this with a grain of salt - I still dislike Firefox, but I don't think it's the devil's work or anything>

I use Firefox and I love it. I wouldn't use IE even if mr. Gates paid me to. ;) The only good thing about IE that I can think of, is activeX, and the worst part about IE is also activeX, so I'll just stay clear from IE as much as I can in the near future. (IE isn't designed for *nix anyway, so I really don't have much of a choice in this case ;) I use IE for testing purposes only, and not on my personal computer.

AAnnAArchy,

someone once said: all browsers suck, but X doesn't suck as much as the others. ;)

(can't remember the who, when and what though)

AAnnAArchy, I think you'll find that extensions will overcome about any difficulty you may have with FireFox. For the bookmarks, remember they're alphabetized where they're listed on your hard drive, so the FireFox import feature just grabs the list and imports it. Yes, it may be a nuisance to re-order your bookmarks, but it can be done with simple drag and drop. And, after all, it only has to be done once.

About the "weird extra bars," could you elaborate? Do you mean the "Blocked Popup" notice and the like? Or is it rendering pages incorrectly?

Been with the Fox since it was Firebird as well. Took me about 2 days to get over IE. Not ever going back.... I'd go to LYNX first!

I use IE for one thing and one thing only: to make sure my sites look and work properly in it.

I tried Firefox when they released 1.0 just to check it out. Had experimented with a bunch of browsers before and always ended up back with IE, so I was really surprised that after a few days I preferred Firefox, and now really like Firefox much more than other options. Increased safety and security is just an extra bonus. Plus, the Adblock extension improves life on the web.

Firefox is easy to use, bristles with fancy extensions, and is a philosophically superior browser (open source could be it's own branch of existentialist thought).

But it's greatest asset, in my book, is the fact that it does exactly what I ask it to do when it loads a CSS file. It doesn't try to fix my coding mistakes; it doesn't second guess my intentions; it doesn't dream up it's own fanciful way of building boxes or implementing my properties. It just reads the file and implements the code the way the code is meant to be implemented.

It simply doesn't get more beautiful than that.

I couldn't agree more! Those are some of the issues I hate the most about IE; IE creates bad web developers, Firefox creates good web developers.

No, they're not.

That's just the default sort applied in Windows Explorer. If you pop open a command prompt and check a couple of directories, you'll see nothing alphabetical about the listing. (Unless, of course you add a /O:N switch...)

Okay, so you got me there! ;) Still, they'll stay put once you rearrange them in FireFox. Small inconvenience compared with the joy of using mouse gestures! ;)

I noticed also that up to 25% of visitors to my pages are using Firefox or some kind of Mozilla. So I also downloaded it to see how my pages look. They look fine. Firefox is ok, it integrated with my old gray dish DirecPC no problems. I think it loads pages a little slower than IE but I've only used it for a day.

I am not one of those that have switched from IE to FireFox. I'm one of those that have switched from Opera to FireFox. :)
