Spiders and counter stats

I use a free site stats service from thecounter.com. I've noticed that my site has been spidererd, but the spiders don't show up in the counter stats. Why is that?

TheCounter only tracks page(s) that you have coded. If the spider never hit that page, it will not show up in the results. It's also possible that Counter sites filter out some spiders knowing that it's not relative to human hits, and also possibly as a way to reduce traffic on their own system resources. If you want to track spiders you'll need access to your raw server logs (best bet) or a tracking software package such as Axs. Even with tracking software like Axs you'll have to add very simple code to each page you want tracked.

I use thecounter.com on a few pages too. The reason the spider hits don't show up is that a spider usually doesn't request images referred to in the html, and since thecounter.com is an image-based counter, the spider hits don't show up.
