Googlebot IPs?

Trying to determine a current list of IPs for Googlebot

I'm trying to determine a current list of IPs for Googlebot (and other spiders). I've recently had these two IP ranges hitting my site and WHOIS info shows them as being from Google -- 216.239.38.* and 216.239.36.* . Are these from Googlebot, or something else?

Does anyone have an accurate and current Googlebot IP list?

I'd also be interested in any other current lists of spider IPs for other bots (Inktomi/Yahoo Slurp!, Alexa, Infoseek, MSN, AskJeeves, etc.). However, these are not as important to me as the Googlebot ones.

Thanks.

Hi Riamus and welcome to Webmasterworld :)

Those IP blocks are indeed assigned to Google. Did you happen to catch the User Agents that visited you?

Unfortunately, no. I'm using a forum that logs IPs, so that is where I got the IPs from. It doesn't log Agents, so I couldn't grab that information. And, since I don't own the host, I can't just look into access logs where that might be stored. Is there another way to get this information?

I see these IPs being used as a proxy for translation.
UA is a normal Mozilla with "translate.google.com" amended to the end.
Referrer is: translate.google.com/translate?... or 216.239.39.104/translate_c...

Hi,
I saw google bot hitting my site hard from this IP 66.249.66.209. I scanned the site for almost 14 hours nonstop. Now I doubt that this is not google.

I blocked it yesterday. Today morning I unblocked it again and in sometime its back again.

What to do, is it posible for anyone to use google IP to attack I have not seen google scanning so badly.

thanks
Bye

Jaunty Edward,

See msg#12 in this thread [webmasterworld.com] for some info on IP spoofing.
