I noticed my log file doubled in December thanks to this IP Address which chewed up 7.4GB of bandwidth:

63.251.132.118

That host is identifying itself as "Microsoft Internet Explorer" - sure it is! It was requesting files every second, as fast as my server could respond.

Just thought I would share.

I have two other ranges from this backbone all related to activity on 12/14/04.

One of those was Fast.

Also see another recent thread regarding another FAST. Whether the two are associated?
Who knows.

I would also add that depending on what your site is about, it could have been some type of leech bot. I have seen these randomly.

Sometimes it is a snake trying to learn your site and structure. Be sure to check copyscape.com for duplicate content.

And then it could also be a spider bot getting stuck in a Session ID or something related to a navigation error. All possibilities.
Check your raw logs and try to pin point the reference, and do more research on the tip.

Googlebot only used up about 1GB of traffic, and it gets every piece of news every day. This is most likely some sort of spider, but not a very polite one so we banned it.
