Log spamming is not the best approach.

Pendanticist,

I have Nutch denied in my .htaccess because the few hits I had on my site from that UA grabbed hundreds of pages in a short period of time and slowed my server to a crawl.

Oh, there are dozens of logspamming bots around here.

I gently leave their owners some appropriate message in their logs, too.

Yeah, well, whaddaya do when the url 'presented' to us in our logs re-directs to some lame parked page?

I've seen at least ten different IPs log spam five different URLs this past two weeks and each of them was shunted to that domain.

I'd love to be able to provide differing messages to these various requests. :)

Anyway, I first posted this thread in Professional Webmaster Business Issues (because it's not a good practice), but they moved it here instead. Guess that's the trouble with knowing where to put a post that is clearly good advice and covers several topic areas.

I couldn't decide whether this should be presented from the log spamming point of view, or that it's not too cool to log spam AND be it your own work history/resume.

I even thought of posting it in New To Web Development, so the newer folks might benefit from this thread by presumably not adopting said practices.

Then again, that's the first time I've ever seen someone log spam within a Nutch UA!

Oh well, so goes life....
