I need to start banning certain IP's from viewing my site that I have created through Tripod / Lycos. I've tried what most of you have said...nothing seems to be working. Can anyone PLEASE help me?

have you tried asking tripod/lycos what methods they support for this? surely they are the ones who would have that info or at least, they'd be able to point you in the right direction...

what have you tried?

Of course I've tried. It's what I already said! Noone seems to be able to have the answer. Tripod goes in a round about way and still no answer! Their answers are straight from the help site which is no help.

HardKnox:

Those are free hosts, right? I would not expect too much flexibility with what you can do there. I would suggest that you consider hosting with a company that would allow you the flexibility you need and the extras you want.

By virtue of the fact that tripod is free they will be very un-willing to ban any IP that they can use to display a banner. When you take advantage of a free service you need to be prepared to allow the provider to call the shots. To be honest I don't even know if barring an IP on only one member site is possible. And if it was it would take time to set up. Tripod are simply a free space provider who base their business plan on selling advertising space on members pages. If you want to be able to have more control then you might be best to upgrade to a paid hosting plan.

Thanks for your help. I currently have an adult jokes site and some of the people who tried to subscribe to my jokes by email are under 18, which I don't allow. I wanted to ban their IP's from viewing my site, plus there are 2 people that keep leaving nasty comments etc.....

HardKnox:

Well, that does seem reasonable, but I really think- if it is IMPORTANT to you- a dedicated (in both senses of the word!) host is your best answer!
