[webmasterworld.com...]

Had another visit from these folks tonight.
In my smaller site than grabbed most every page.

In my larger site, many pages however nowhere near complete.

TRipped my dime-store bot in both sites.
No images. No Robots.
The server also switched IP's in the middle (which also belonged to Cogeco,) then switched back to the original IP.
I've denied both ranges and will expand to include every range I'm able to find on this company.

A genuine reply from a backbone :)

The reply claimed that the following IP's are proxy servers for Cogeco:
d221-216-96.systems.cogeco.net (216.221.81.96)
proxy.cogeco.net (216.221.81.97)
d221-216-98.systems.cogeco.net (216.221.81.98)
d221-216-99.systems.cogeco.net (216.221.81.99)

They offer no explanation for this particular visitor switching to a non proxy were and than back to the proxy during the spider :(

These for proxies apparently provide data for 170,000 Canadian subscribers.

I knew it was only a matter of time before I was banned by wilderness... :)

Canada deserves the same treatment as RIPE & APNIC?!

Wait a sec... I'm asking an American, so the answer is obvious! ;)

balam,
I'm on the verge of letting the Cogeco proxy servers back in. I get too many visitors and have to many Canadian friends.

I was hoping to gather a list of ALL proxy servers someplace and haven't had much luck in my searches.

BTW, Would you have any connections at Standardbred Canada ;)

Uh, not sure if I should say this, but my only relationship with horses has been via the dinner plate... ;)

On topic, AFAIK, the four previously mentioned IPs are the only IPs that Cogeco customers come in on. Rather annoying, as it does add some skewing to the visitor stats.

Yay!

the four previously mentioned IPs are the only IPs that Cogeco customers come in on.

The reply (of which I rarely receive) from Cogeco informed me that those four were proxy servers.
There were other ranges:
24.226.0.0 - 24.226.255.255
24.57.0.0 - 24.57.255.255
24.141.0.0 - 24.141.255.255
24.150.0.0 - 24.150.255.255
205.151.61.0 - 205.151.69.255
205.237.35.0 - 205.237.71.255
206.47.118.224 - 206.47.118.255
216.221.64.0 - 216.221.95.255
24.122.0.0 - 24.122.79.255
24.235.128.0 - 24.235.191.255

the 24.141. was used as an in process switch, similar to what AOL does with images except the Cogeco change grabbed everything for a few seconds and then switched back to the original IP.

BTW, I've forwarded your email address to all the save the horse folks ;)
Most of those folks have the best intentions with ghoulish stories to tell. However they sometimes can't see the forest through the trees and think all racing horses are abused.
Portions of Europe are big on horse dinners. Especially since that Hoof and mouth disaster in GB. Unheard of in the US, even in most places of Canada, save Quebec ;)

There were other ranges:

Oops... Stupid me. Looks like it's just veggies for dinner. :(

Can I redeem myself by adding 24.146.0.0 - 24.146.31.255 to the list?

I confused myself by only thinking about the cogeco.ca/.com/.net domains and forgot about cgocable.ca/.com/.net domains...

BTW, I've forwarded your email address to all the save the horse folks

My girlfriend - who's a horse fan - caught my original comment about dinner and (disapprovingly) asked if it was true... Truth be told, I was offered what I was told was horsemeat, and not being one to turn down food, well... It's not like I head out each weekend to bag me another Mr. Ed. (Mind you, Sambukaonice looks tasty AND she's close! ;)
