I personally have no benefit to gain from their traffic and in most instances they have no benefit to gain from my content.
Unless you inlcude the reason of gathering email addresses and consuming my bandwidth.
As a result I have most far east IP's denied.

I realize that doesn't answer your quiestion.
Each webmaster should decide which benefit it has to gain from what traffic and set the htaccess accordingly.
