Have just seen this IP - 158.140.2.102 - in my logs identifying itself as "Inktomi Search".

I have only ever seen Slurp in logs before. Is this a genuine Inktomi spider, or something else?

Hmm the IP belongs to Cadence Design Systems, which is a designer/manufacturer of circuit boards, etc.

I doubt that Inktomi is renting servers from them...

Probably did a "whois" at [arin.net....] Which shows that the ip belongs to Cadence.

Remember that Ink sells their search solutions to businesses, and Cadence could very well be a customer.

Cadence sells high-end computer-aided-engineering systems (used to design and manufacture PC boards among other things), and they definitely have the need and the bucks for in-house search. You may be seeing an indexing based on one of their employees having visited your site - You might want to back-check your logs for a regular browser from that IP range. IIRC, you'll see mostly Sun/Solaris workstations reported in the UA.

I have worked with Cadence in the past; they are legitimate and have no reason to be causing trouble on the Web.
