205.236.34.175 - - [05/Jan/2003:21:41:58 +0100] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 200 11800 "-" "Mozilla/2.0 (compatible; NEWT ActiveX; Win32)"

Traced it back to [i3d.qc.ca...] Anyone seen this arround? More information on it? Would this it is a bot, but the ActiveX suggests otherwise.

If you google for "NEWT ActiveX" you get a number of hits, the most likely one seemed to be a control you can include into your programs to get internet functions (NetManage's Internet Control Pack FWIW).

This is probably yet another home-made 'bot.

I'd wager that i3d INTERNET communication (ARIN lookup) are a small company (they happen to own a small netblock so that rules out them being an ISP) who have either built this bot/utility themselves or perhaps they are just using some new niche application they just got hold of...

If you really think it's a real person the easy way to tell is look at the access patterns - does it just get the page or does it retrieve the items on that that page like a normal user would?
