I looked in the archives and found the below.
The most (top line)recent from 12/12 seems to be most acurate

Quick note that 216.239.33.5 reverse DNS's to proxy.google.com

just to round out the info here for the next person who needs it,

seems like the proxy is used somehow for the Google Browser (labs.google.com)

I checked one of my sites through the google browser and in my log:

A visitor from proxy.google.com (216.239.33.5) was logged 5 times,
starting at 10:37:36 AM on Monday, January 27, 2003.
The initial browser was Python-urllib/2.0a1
