The full UA
"c:/marigold/ssl/tpp/automated/instance_url/url_2.txt" "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0)" only showed on the initial entry.
Was follwed by a "", "" for both referer and ua which resulted in a 403.
And was followed by immediately downloading my category/section pages

The UA after the 403 was "Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0)"

Tracert on the IP resulted in attbi.com.
A search on "instance_url/" found the software name.

This software seems ok if used sparringly. Similar to the page update notification IE offers. Although this particular software only works with Mac's.

All in all I personally don't care for these types of visitors in my websites. My sites really don't offer any sort of news and I'm not looking to have somebody notified and visiting multiple pages as they are updated. My sites use a visitor counter (which I'm slowly eliminating on new pages) which offers this update notification and I don't care for that either.

I also saw this user-agent, from 12.224.186.194 which resolved to attbi.com. They went to my root directory which isn't listed anywhere on the net (everything is in subdirs) so I am not sure where they got it. Most likely some kind of domain registration info. They didn't bother checking the robots file.
